I love the history of words. This idea that symbols and lines have evolved to hold meaning, to tell us stories… It is a fantastic thought.

These words have developed structures and rules to help us more clearly express these stories. The very basic human needs, aside from food, water, and shelter, include communication. Our need to be social and part of a greater whole drives us. This is the Socio part of the definition. The way we interact socially. How do we do love, work, play, and mourn. How do we as humans’ function?

Linguistic; this is a word closely bound to the tongue. The Latin lingua. Our speech is tied to our tongue. This pink piece of flesh that bobbles around in our mouth helping us make sense of our world. This is the second part of the word. This idea that the sounds, that we create, are worth studying. This organized system of lines and rules, which helps us communicate will some how give a deeper understanding of who we are. Or who our fellow humans are.
